Vortex VII, Variation G

The rotation is straightened into a curtain. Tall vertical columns of pigment hang side by side — fuchsia, scarlet, marigold, jade, viridian, orchid and grass green — separated by thin dark channels where the knife scraped down to the ground. Fine white speckle collects along the ridges, and the pigment appears to have dragged downward under its own weight.

Behind the artwork

Where the earlier Vortex works spin, this one falls: the same loaded strokes pulled into a single vertical direction until the spiral is unrolled flat.
